When you pick up the phone to call 000 to report a fire, this is what happens. 1/ You place to the call to 000. Your call goes to a Telstra call centre where you are asked for 'Police, Fire or Ambulance'. 2/ You request fire and the call is routed to a NSWFB Call centre located at either Wollongong, Sydney, Newcastle or Katoomba. 3/ Once you pass the incident information to the operator, it is entered in a computer system called CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) and a location is determined. 4/ Once the area is defined as either NSWFB area, or RFS area the following actions are taken : If the area is NSWFB area. - A 'firecall' is sent to the NSWFB station(s) closest to the incident and a printout is received detailing the location of the call. If the area is NSW RFS area. - A call is placed to the RFS Fire Control Centre’s 000 line and the information is passed. The Fire Control Centre then pages the appropriate brigade(s).
